Permanent Teeth Whitening (Bleaching)

Permanent teeth whitening is a method applied to lighten the color of teeth that have changed and turned into more yellowish color for various reasons. It is applied to remove the discoloration that occurs in the structure of the teeth (enamel and dentin layer).

Healthy and white teeth are important for a beautiful smile. However, structural defects that occur during the formation of teeth, some antibiotics used as a child or in the womb, what we eat and drink, and the amount of fluoride in the water can discolor our teeth. In addition to these, old age, old dentures, veneers and fillings are also effective in the loss of whiteness of the teeth.

Teeth lose their whiteness as a result of the colored organic and inorganic substances accumulating in the porous enamel structure on the surface of the teeth over the years, due to the effects of tea, coffee, cigarettes we eat, all beverages containing colorants, cherry juices, red wines, and pomegranate juices.

Instead of doing veneer crowns on darkened or yellowed teeth, a permanent teeth whitening method, also called bleaching, is applied to end of this process, the teeth are opened up to eight to ten tons depending on their condition.

There are different methods to whiten teeth. The first is professional whitening (Office bleaching) with the help of a dentist, and the other is the home bleaching system applied at home in line with the recommendation of your doctor.

Professional whitening performed by a dentist in the clinic is applied as follows:
The whitening agent is applied to the tooth by a physician experienced in this procedure.
On the related teeth; LASER LIGHT is kept for a certain time to activate the gel used.
In the bleaching process performed in the clinic, the result can be observed immediately. More than one session can be applied for the desired whiteness level.

The dentist takes impressions from the patient’s mouth and prepares the molds to be attached to the teeth. Patients put the whitening agents into these special molds prepared for them and place the mold on their teeth. It should be used for at least 6-8 hours a day, preferably while sleeping.
This treatment takes an average of 1-4 weeks.
Although both methods are effective, the choice depends on the degree of discoloration, how quickly the treatment is desired to be terminated, and the physician’s opinion.
It can be applied to almost everyone. However, there are some situations where treatment may not be effective. Your dentist will determine whether the teeth are suitable for this procedure with a complete intraoral control and diagnosis. Patients with dental caries and advanced gum disease should have the whitening process applied after their treatment.
It is not recommended for pregnant and lactating individuals.
Teeth whitening is effective and safe if done under the supervision of your dentist. Teeth and gums are not damaged in any way.
*Controlling the hot-cold sensitivity
After bleaching, “hot-cold sensitivity” was rarely seen. However, this situation disappears completely within 1-3 days. The whitening process does not cause any changes on the tooth enamel.
* Continuity of the application
Whitening is a permanent process. However, the color may return over time in those who consume excessively cigarettes, coffee and tea. The patient is guided about dental cleaning. Generally, after a few years, whitening can be enhanced with a one-time procedure.
Very few of the people who have teeth whitening can feel hot and cold sensitivity after the application. This happens because of slight wear and enamel cracks on the teeth, a sensitivity that passes in a short time. If the existing sensitivity on the teeth is excessive, this feeling is eliminated with fluoride application.
The whiteness of your teeth provided by teeth whitening (Bleaching) is long-lasting, but this period also depends on you. Your colorful food habits such as excessive smoking, excessive tea-coffee-cola affect this period.
