Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are the third molars that erupt around the age of 18.
These teeth are located at the back of the jaw, which makes very difficult to be reached and cleaned thus they are very prone to decay. The treatment of these teeth is more difficult due to their position.
Due to the narrowness of the jaw, these teeth cannot always erupt and take their place in the mouth and they are generally either fully impacted or semi-impacted
These teeth cause;
- Severe pain continuously or with time intervals
- Root decay on the next tooth by putting pressure
- Inflammation of the gums in that area
- Ear pain and swelling of the lymph nodes
- Crowding on the front teeth.
It is not necessary to extract the wisdom teeth that have taken their place in the mouth and can be cleaned well. However, other than that, these teeth that may cause problems should be extracted by the specialist.
Apart from wisdom teeth, canines and second molars can also remain impacted when they cannot find a suitable eruption position. First of all, it should be aimed to maintain these teeth with the help of braces, but the teeth that cannot be sustained due to their position should be surgically extracted. Impacted teeth that are not pulled out cause cyst formation, and damage other existing teeth in the mouth.
