Gingival Recession
Gingival recession is the exposure of the root surface by moving the gingiva more apically from the existing border (cemento-enamel junction).
Causes Of Gingival Recession:
- Gingival disease
- Traumatic, incorrect brushing
- Brushing more often than necessary
- Using hard toothbrush
- Crowding in the teeth, positioning the tooth in front of the bone, not in the position it should be
- Problems such as clenching and grinding
- High frenulum attachments
- Incorrectly made fillings
As a result of gingival recession:
1.Aesthetic complaints
2.Sensitivity problems (pain after hot-cold foods)
3.Caries on the exposed root surface
4.As a result of the continuation of the extraction, losing the tooth can be seen.
Treatment Of Gum Recession:
Type of treatment is determined according to the localization of the recession, its severity, the condition of the surrounding bone tissue, and the position of the tooth.
Early diagnosis is very important; If it is realized in the first stages of recession, root surface can be covered with simple surgical operations.
For patients who do not want an operation, the sensitivity problems are eliminated by filling the root surface opened in suitable cases.
In advanced cases accompanied by bone loss, it is aimed to stop the gingival recession surgically to keep the tooth in the mouth.
Surgical operations; Tissues taken from the palate (free gingival graft, connective tissue graft) are applied with the method of shifting the tissues around the recessed tooth (coronal/laterally positioned flap).
