What Is Periodontal Disease?
Periodontal disease is chronic inflammation of bone, gingiva and tooth supporting tissues caused bacterial plaque and dental calculus. if we do not brush our teeth for 7 days, gingivitis, which is the first step of the periodontal disease, begins to appear and, if left untreated, spreads to the supporting tissues around the tooth and causes tooth loss. Periodontal disease is a chronic disease that progresses slowly and silently and does not show any signs of pain. Various hormonal changes seen during smoking, stress, diabetes, pregnancy and puberty, and the use of some medications (blood pressure drugs, epilepsy drugs, drugs that suppress the immune system) increase the severity and rate of progression of the disease.
